How to Read Labels: Hidden Fat in the Ingredients List

When Nutrition Information Panel is not available, the next best thing to do to know whether the product is high in fat, is to read the Ingredients List.


There are ingredients that contributes to the fat content. However, there are some ingredients that we didn't know contributes to the fat content.

Here are some known ingredients that contributes to the Fat content:

  • Butter

  • Margarine

  • Vegetable Oils/Fats

  • Palm Oil

  • Coconut Oil

  • Partially Hydrogenated Oils/Fats

  • Hydrogenated Oils/Fats

  • Lard

  • Peanut/ Canola/Rapeseed oil

  • Butterfat

  • Coconut Cream

  • Ghee

  • Monoglycerides

  • Diglycerides

  • Triglycerides


Here are some ingredients contain fats but you just didn't know about

  • Suet

  • Sour Cream

  • Palm Olein (aka Palm Oil)
